Timer Cube

Updated: Nov 11, 2022

Setting aside and dedicating time to a particular task is easy when you have a physical timer counting down the time.

Want to just have a set amount of time where you can hammer down on a specific task? Have a big project you need to work on but don't know where to start? The Pomodoro technique could possibly help you get over these hurdles and focus on your work.

The Pomodoro technique is where you set a timer for 25 min, and during that time you put away all distractions and focus on the task at hand. Then once the timer is up, you take a 5 min break. Repeat this a few times and then take a longer break (10-30 min) as needed.

Procrastination has little to do lack of self-control or laziness. It may be uncomfortable to start a big task or project - one you may not be sure how to even do or one that just seems so big and daunting. So turning to distractions is all too easy to do when we feel uncomfortable.

The Pomodoro technique is designed to help force you to take those steps towards completing a task along with decreasing the number of distractions you may encounter.

The reason I recommend the timer cube over your phone's timer is because it's so easy to get distracted whenever your phone is nearby, so you'd preferably want to keep your phone far away from you when practicing the Pomodoro technique.

This timer cube is also very useful in the kitchen.

Pomodoro Tomato Timer:

Francesco Cirillo named this technique Pomodoro (meaning tomato in italian) because he used a simple tomato timer like this one. These timers don't have the best reviews so it might not be ideal for the Pomodoro technique.

Some more simple and possibly cheaper options are:

- Phone timer

- Computer timer

- Alexa

- Microwave timer

- Various apps
